Despite its name, Phibsboro Chess Club actually meets at Clareville Community Centre on Claremont Lawns in Glasnevin, so it's worth checking the map rather than heading for Phibsborough itself.

The club runs junior chess coaching alongside tournament play, catering to a wide range of ability from complete beginners right up to strong players rated 2300 and above, with a dedicated juniors tournament held for younger members.

Chess is a great outlet for children who enjoy quiet, strategic thinking, and a club environment with organised tournaments gives kids a reason to keep improving and a chance to test their skills against other young players.
