Bunratty Castle & Folk Park
About Bunratty Castle & Folk Park
A 15th-century castle paired with a recreated 19th-century Irish village on 26 acres, just off the N18 between Limerick and Ennis and close to Shannon Airport. The castle itself holds what the site describes as the country's finest collection of medieval furniture, and visitors can explore its towers and rooms with historical background on the families who lived there. The Folk Park spreads out around it with more than 30 historic buildings - village streets, shops, farmhouses, and the Georgian Bunratty House built in 1804 - along with a Fairy Village, a Viking-themed playground and a walled garden, giving children plenty of space to run around outdoors between the history. Dining options on site range from casual (Earl's Pantry, the Tea Rooms) to the Corn Barn Restaurant, and the castle is well known for its evening Medieval Banquets. Free parking is available year-round. Opening hours shift with the seasons, running longer in summer, and the castle itself has an earlier last-admission time than the wider Folk Park grounds. School tours are offered for both primary and secondary groups, and the site also hosts seasonal events such as Halloween and Christmas programming, including Santa's Grotto.
