Clonfert Farm

Nature & Animals

Contrary to older listings claiming no website exists, Clonfert Farm has a full official site and online booking system. Established in 2009 as a small open farm with around ten animal types, it has grown into a much bigger mini zoo in the Kildare countryside near Maynooth, now home to over 60 species including meerkats, ring-tailed lemurs, arctic foxes, coatimundis, marmosets and macaws alongside the usual farmyard favourites. The site is designed to fill a whole day: three playgrounds, a football pitch, an astro pitch, a zipline, mini golf, BBQ areas, a fairy trail and a bouncy castle outdoors, plus a 600 sq ft indoor soft play area for wet days. The Birdhouse Café serves breakfast and lunch with indoor and outdoor seating, and a Barn Farm Shop stocks sustainably sourced gifts. Clonfert has picked up several recent awards, including the Family Edit Awards' Outdoor Activities Business of the Year in both 2025 and 2026. Walkways are mostly tarmac and accessible, with a baby-changing room and one free carer admission for visitors with additional needs. School tours run in small guided groups on timed slots, avoiding the crowding of shared visits.

Maynooth University - CoderDojo

STEM

CoderDojo at Maynooth University is a free, weekly coding club for children and teens aged 8 to 16, running during term-time on campus. It's part of the volunteer-led CoderDojo movement, which pairs mentors with young people to build programming skills in a relaxed, club-style setting rather than a formal classroom. Beginners typically start with Scratch, a common entry point for young coders, before rotating through more advanced material such as the BBC micro:bit, Robocode and Java as their confidence grows. Being free and university-hosted makes it an accessible option for families in the Maynooth area wanting to introduce their child to coding without a course fee.
