About Portlaoise Christmas Market

Downtown Portlaoise traders, with Laois County Council, light up Main Street for the town’s Christmas lights switch-on and Christmas market. In past years Santa has arrived to switch on the lights and meet children for photos ahead of the market taking over Main Street for the weekend; the 2026 programme confirms the lights switch-on and market but had not explicitly confirmed Santa’s role at research time.

Lights switch-on: Friday 25 November 2026, 6.30pm-7.30pm, Top Square. Market: Saturday-Sunday 26-27 November 2026, Main Street.
