About Irish National Stud & Gardens

Set on a working thoroughbred stud farm in Co. Kildare, this attraction lets children see real racehorses up close, from mares and foals to retired champions grazing in the paddocks. The award-winning Irish Racehorse Experience is an interactive, family-friendly walkthrough tracing a racehorse's life from birth to the winner's enclosure, ideal for curious young visitors who love animals. Beyond the stud yard, the grounds include the acclaimed Japanese Gardens, one of the finest examples of their kind in Europe, and St Fiachra's Garden, styled after an ancient monastic retreat with woodland walks, a lake and cave. A dedicated Kids Zone gives younger children space to play outdoors, and the site offers free guided tours led by knowledgeable staff. Families can refuel at the on-site restaurant overlooking the Japanese Gardens before browsing the gift shop on the way out. With flat, largely accessible paths connecting the stud yard and gardens, it suits pushchairs as well as older kids keen to spot foals in the fields. It's a genuinely hands-on introduction to horse breeding alongside a relaxing garden walk.
