Wild Ireland
About Wild Ireland
Wild Ireland occupies an ancient Celtic rainforest setting in Inishowen, Co. Donegal, and takes a rescue-first approach rather than being a conventional zoo: nearly every animal on site, from wolves and European brown bears to lynx, wild boar and monkeys, arrived after being exploited, mistreated or bred for a life they were never suited to. Flat paths and boardwalks wind through the woodland past large naturalistic enclosures, giving families a genuine two-hour woodland walk as much as an animal-viewing experience, with staff on hand to explain each rescue story and the park's conservation and release work. A café serves hot food and snacks, and there's a gift shop, covered picnic area and free large car park with disabled parking. Bathrooms include disabled access and baby-changing facilities, and the paths are pram and wheelchair friendly throughout. The park runs seasonal events, including a well-loved Arctic-themed Christmas experience, alongside its everyday mission of giving formerly captive wild animals a species-appropriate home in the Irish countryside.
