About Santa Express Mullingar

A community-run Christmas train from Mullingar Railway Station, organised by the 9th Westmeath Milltownpass Scout Group. Before boarding there is festive music, elves, face painting and hot chocolate on the old Athlone Line platform. The return journey through the Westmeath countryside takes about an hour, with games, songs and a treat bag for each child, and Santa and Mrs Claus visit every child at their seat with a gift. Every train has a dedicated sensory-friendly carriage.

Four trains: Saturday 12 December 2026 at 1.15pm and 3.15pm, and Sunday 13 December at 11.15am and 1.15pm. All four have sold out in each of the last three years.
