Dingle Oceanworld
About Dingle Oceanworld
Founded in 1996 by marine biologist Dr Kevin Flannery and local business partners, Dingle Oceanworld describes itself as Ireland's largest and most diverse aquarium, set on the edge of Dingle town in County Kerry. The self-guided route takes in a shark tank, an Amazon river zone, a Butterfly Oasis, and cold-water residents including Asian short-clawed otters and gentoo and Humboldt penguins in the Penguin Coast exhibit. Daily feeding times and aquarist talks run throughout the day, and visitors who book ahead get the chance to interact closely with rays and other touchable species. Most people spend around an hour working through the exhibits, though there's no time limit once inside, and a licensed café and gift shop sit alongside the main tanks. The aquarium is a genuine conservation and education operation as much as a visitor attraction, running an online learning hub, school group bookings and work experience placements, with a stated mission to protect, promote and preserve marine environments. School tours can be arranged with guided options, while the general visit is self-directed. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
