Admission is free. The National Gallery of Ireland, right in the heart of Merrion Square, is a brilliant stop for families. Entry is free, and kids will love wandering through the bright galleries filled with colourful paintings and fascinating portraits. The gallery also runs creative workshops and family-friendly tours, making art feel accessible and fun for all ages. The Early Years, Children and Families Programme plays a major part in encouraging learning through art at the National Gallery of Ireland. This programme is for all the family, from babies and toddlers to younger teens and their parents/guardians, embracing play, enquiry, problem solving, independent thinking and collaboration through multi-disciplinary sensory activities responding to the national collection. The programme includes general activities on site for everyone, from seasoned museum visitors to tourist families on holiday. The gallery offers drop-in workshops, tours and activities, all with a family focus. The Atrium Creative Space is open every day, and free art packs are available. There are also scheduled workshops and events, designed with age-appropriate learning in mind. The gallery is currently developing an online strand for Early Years, Children and Families, which aims to take learning through art out of the gallery and into the home. After your visit, you can pop across to Merrion Square Park for a run-around - the perfect mix of culture and playtime.
